Rally car mods

The following 4 Spanish modding groups share good to great AC rally car mods for free on their Discord server, even multiple versions of most rally cars can be found:

  • N&F offers a huge number of mods, but with many different contributors the quality is a bit uneven and the huge number of channels can make it overwhelming – check Luis Ferreira. All cars posted can be tracked in #download-cars-descarga-nuestros-coches, then the actual download is to be found in the modder’s channel (like #luis-ferreira , #R-GT-mods etc).
  • Kronos Simracing has a huge list of rally car mods (127 as of 02/2024) and most of them are really good, the full list can be found here. Not all cars have skins included, these can be found separately by searching through their Discord in channel #skins-coches-kronos. Kronos also has one of the most active Discord servers discussing AC rallying – mainly in Spanish, but you can chime in in English.
  • RallyWorld (the Spanish dean of many AC rally car mods) is now focusing mainly on Dakar-style off-road racing, but on their Discord and website several recent tarmac and gravel rally car mods are available. There’s also several rally track mods and a huge number of Dakar style cars & stages.
  • Verdes Garage has a number of very nice car mods available, including lots of skins and dedicated setups for tarmac, gravel and snow. Editing visual elements on the car in the setup menu is a nice innovation (instead of having to edit .ini files). Cars still under development are reserved to Patreon subscribers.

Beware, several unscrupulous websites (like assettorallygrb) copy mods from above groups and try to make a profit either by asking for money directly or by advertising, steer clear!

Here’s a short selection of cars by different authors and groups. Check the information about RainFX.

This car mod comes with hybrid boost: enable in setup > electronics, or CTRL+2 in-game. Battery charges under braking, releases power when accelerating until drained. In the stock Gears app you’ll notice 3 colored bars: Green = battery level, Yellow = allowed amount of boost per lap (not used so far), Blue = amount of electrical power delivered. In the “ERS” app hybrid settings can be seen, but only enabling/disabling boost works.

Great mod by LF SimRacing, the Yaris WRC is a pocket rocket on wheels.

This is an extremely well-made car mod, equally challenging and exciting when driven fast. And it’s sounding particularly nice to boot! A gravel version is included.

No car is more synonymous with rallying than the Subaru Impreza. This mod looks and drives equally great, with the Petter Solberg skin by SRD as the icing on the cake.

While Skoda didn’t have the resources to compete at the very highest level, the Fabia WRC had great potential as demonstrated by Colin McRae. Some nice extra skins can be found on N&F Discord in channel “mgq-designs”.

Very well balanced car and great fun to drive. Check the “visuals” tab in car setup: here you can put on a light pod, mud flaps or change rims. Also check the setup links in description (when selecting the car in content manager) – paste the link in your browser to install optimized setups for tarmac, gravel and snow.

Like the real world car, this car mod is a rally-spec rework of the DTM version (as provided by Kunos). Sollrakc meticulously researched and re-created the original Prodrive specifications to deliver this great mod as close to the real thing as possible. If you find it difficult to drive, here’s a short instructional video. And to make it turn in a bit easier: decrease coast diff lock from the default (documented) 75% to 25%

The Delta S4 was both the pinnacle and the end of the crazy Group B era, with Toivonen/Cresto perishing when their S4 exploded and burnt after crashing out on the 1986 Tour de Corse. This car mod feels about right – like a rocket on wheels. The version by RallyLegends is arguably much finer crafted, but imho handling feels like driving on soap – it might be a taste to be acquired.

This powerful Ford Escort MKII was developed by Digital Motorsports in collaboration with Craig Breen and the result is excellent. Here’s a replay of an event with the car, Jon Armstrong narrowly beating Craig Breen on Drazgose. There’s also a nice Group 2 version of this car by Kronos Simracing.

Another icon of 70’s rallying in a finely crafted mod by TMM. The link above points to the circuit version which is perfecly usable for tarmac rallying; the pictured rally version looks way better but doesn’t have tarmac tyres and setup for now. Fixing the rally car for tarmac would be the finishing touch.

Last but not least in the list: an incredibly detailed mod of the classic Alpine, and it’s huge fun to drive as well.
